Orange Flagship handset – the SPV C500

I’m continually impressed with the Orange SPV C500. So far I’ve dropped it twice and the “bird” has (purely by accident she says) thrown it at me once…. hey, I even stood on the thing too! Yet it still works, it’s a tough little Smartphone and I’m growing to like it more and more each day. It’s good to see Orange promoting the hell out of it too.

Yesterday I went to the Orange Shop in the Bull Ring, Birmingham to pick up this thing for testing (I’ll tell you more in a bit), and noticed that the C500 was being proudly promoted on the massive cube at the centre of the store. The guy I spoke to said that it was their flagship handset and they’ve had lots of interest in it. Good good! :)

Anyways, back to the reason I was there. I’m testing a 3G handset for Orange over the next few months – they’re gonna start selling 3G handsets soon soon so they want to check everything works in advance. I won’t mention too much about the S**y E******n handset I have, but I do have some interesting observations. The Z1010 is from Sony Ericsson, and it’s big… however, new players like LG with their 3G phone are coming along with much smaller and better designed handsets. Likewise with Windows Mobile we have new players such as HTC, who make very successful, tiny handsets like the Orange SPV C500.

I don’t think it’ll be too long before we see a lot of the “major players” having to cope and keep up with more and more very talented rivals.
