Check this out, according to research done by University College London, speed cameras (you know we all love them) actually cause more accidents. Why ? Well, people are generally more pre-occupied watching that the needle doesn’t go above 30mph to notice dear old Mrs Grimes crossing the road with her shopping.
Areas which have the most speed cameras show an increase in fatalities. They’ve also collected the most amount of cash through fines…. Hmmm ….where does all that money go eh? However, in areas which have NO speed cameras, their accident death rates have actually dropped!
Because of this, the UK government have now suspended the deployment of more speeds cameras. They’ve launched a probe into whether they actually save lives.
