Load times and geeky stuff

I’ve been doing some more hefty website work this weekend. Unfortunately most of it is utterly boring geeky stuff that most readers won’t be interested in. Moving tables around, shifting PHP, compacting the databases and reducing calls to the MySQL database have been on my hit list this weekend – the objective is to attempt to reduce loading times.

I’ve reduced the MySQL database – where all the articles and posts, news items and user information are stored – from a hugely inflated 278Mb down to around 120Mb, plus I’ve taken out a load of crappy advert schemes that weren’t working or were just sucking up bandwidth.

The forum has also been given a bit of a turbo-boost too, so check it out :)

Hopefully you should see an improvement in speed. If not, I’ll be down the pub.
