Almost half of 999 calls are pointless

Sky News have just completed research into nuisance 999 (which is the Emergency Services number for the UK) call. 21 forces took part in the survey and they discovered that nearly half of all calls were unnecessary. In Strathclyde 85% of calls were not emergencies!

Some callers asked about hedgehogs and cigarettes, whilst others called up for even more stupid reasons.
