The Rochester and Strood by-election has resulted in another UKIP MP in Parliament. But why are people voting UKIP? Some ridicule their policies, others laugh at their constant “rogue MPs” and they can sometimes make huge mistakes.
But, what seems to be more apparent is the fact that the lack of real choice in the UK. Whether true or not, voters perceive that the Conservatives, Labour and Liberal Democrats won’t offer any real difference in their lives. “They’re all the same” seems to be the general opinion and, despite the fact that the remaining option is a bit bonkers, a bit iffy, a bit vague, a bit strange, a bit xenophobic and constantly screwing things up…. It’s a much better selection than what we’ve got.
Which is a sad state of affairs if you think about it.
