The iPhone becomes SIM free

Well that didn’t take long did it? After the iPhone / AT&T activation system got hacked and bypassed, now the iPhone SIM lock has been beaten too. Bye bye AT&T, it was nice knowing you. No wires, no soldering, just a quick painless bit of software to allow the AT&T iPhone to leave the USA. If you’re outside America and… Read more →

Rally-tastic. Watch this video. Watch this video right now

Best rally video….ever. No, scratch that… Best YouTube video… ever… No, scratch that… Best video ever. This is Ari Vatanen flinging his Peugeot up Pikes Peak. Believe me, you do NOT want to get into trouble on this course otherwise you’ll… errr.. slide off that little drop on the side of the road.. I love the bug splat and the… Read more →

Adverts – the good, the bad, the ugly

There’s good adverts and then there’s bad adverts. I’d like to show you a couple that I’ve found recently because, when I do get to sit my arse on the sofa after doing DIY, I only seem to get adverts on the TV. First up is one of my faves, the edge.co.uk advert. It’s almost like a normal drive to… Read more →

Embossed words and phrases on your car

Today I received a spam email from a company called PIDPlates. They do that 3D lettering that matches the manufacturer / model name on the rear of your car. You can have anything on the back, including abusive messages like “Get off my backside you spanner!” and more. It’s about 38 with another 6 postage to get one, plus you… Read more →

Cars you should NOT buy!

The Chery Amulet is a top-selling Chinese car in Russia. It’s a popular vehicle and can be seen around most of Russia. Now, top car magazine AutoReview did a Euro-NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) test on it. Chery officials were present during the Amulet crash test as the car was driven at 40 mph into a solid barrier. The left… Read more →

Driving me to drink

This is a Morrisons Miles voucher. It’s part of a loyalty scheme to get you buying petrol and then spending in the Morrisons. The idea is that you fill up, swipe your special loyalty card and add up “miles”. When you get to a certain level of miles you get one of these – a 5 voucher. I usually fill… Read more →

Up to 8Mbps – Actually, it’s no-where near

So, you’ve got “up to 8Mbps” broadband right ? Err… Well, no … you don’t actually. Even when advertised as up to 8Mbps you’ll usually find that your broadband actually never reaches anywhere near that. A survey by consumer watchdog “Which?” reveals that on average you’ll only get 2.7Mbps from your “up to” 8Mbps connection. 300 people were surveyed and,… Read more →

One special Bugatti Veyron

The Bugatti Veyron. It goes like the clappers and if you own one, you’ve obviously got a serious amount of money. This isn’t a car you’re going to see cruising around McDonalds any time soon, believe me. However, if you’re a Russian oil baron and you’ve got millions washing around in your bank account then there’s times when a standard… Read more →

And… We’re here!

Well, here we are in our new home. Luckily, I do have an internet connection, despite an almost two week wait to switch our phone line. How? Well, I have a very nice new neighbour with a wide open internet connection to thank. ;) Currently I’m busy putting curtain poles up and trying desperately to reconstruct wardrobes, beds and other… Read more →

I can’t phone home

Everyone that moves house will no doubt have some sort of checklist. I’m steadily working through ours and I’ve ticked off the gas company, the electric company, the water company and many more. So far, so good I thought, and most of the “big” changes have gone smoothly. Ah, but now we get to the phone line. This is where… Read more →

Oh! I found a get rich quick scheme!

Somehow, after a bit of Googling for something completely different, I ended up on AmericaBlog.com. The site seems to dedicate itself to bringing “the truth” to the American people. There’s various stories which are well worth reading, such as the recent change in security to make sure that Europe provides America with information about religious beliefs and sexual orientation when… Read more →

On the move….

Over the last week I’ve been making more changes which should hopefully result in faster loading times across the site. Behind the scenes though there’s some big changes in my own life, and we’ll be moving house this week sometime. This means that the lovely fast Internet connection will be pulled out and it’ll no doubt take BT an age… Read more →

Errr.. It’s a new web application… honest.. :)

Here’s an iPhone on display in an Apple store. I use Unix quite a bit and recognise the “fsck” prompt, which is a disk check. :) Apparently a reboot fixes this problem – it seems to have gone into single user mode. Oh, and the picture was taken with an iPhone (yes, it is blurry). Link – poopforbrains.com Read more →

Jordan calls her new baby .. err.. Teababy or something

Jordan, in a move that is guaranteed to sell more copies of “Heat”, “Glamour” and every other paparazzi magazine available, has named her baby girl “Princess Tiaamii”. No, I’m not joking. Their second child together will have a name pronounced tee-ah-me. It’s apparently a mash-up of Peter Andre’s moms name Thea and Jordan’s mom, Amy. They’ve also chosen “Princess” because..… Read more →

Almost half of 999 calls are pointless

Sky News have just completed research into nuisance 999 (which is the Emergency Services number for the UK) call. 21 forces took part in the survey and they discovered that nearly half of all calls were unnecessary. In Strathclyde 85% of calls were not emergencies! Some callers asked about hedgehogs and cigarettes, whilst others called up for even more stupid… Read more →

Note to self – Never watch that Pearl Harbour film again

I’ve not watched this movie for quite some time and, to be honest, I’ve just remembered why. What a load of absolute rubbish. The flight sequences are great, but the excessive bravado, painfully over-writen script and idiotic lines like, “I think World War Two has just started” as the Japanese attack (this is set in 1941 by the way) is… Read more →

Where did the summer go?

What the hell is going on with our weather? Flood after flood after flood. It’s almost as if global warming has gone into overdrive… I mean sure, the ice caps may melt and flood large parts of the UK, but I honestly didn’t think we’d get a months worth of rain every few hours. This is going to sound a… Read more →

iPhone web app dangers

The Apple iPhone. It’s out now in the USA and the feedback, according to Apple, is “broadly positive”. There’s new applications for it and more are appearing daily. But, there’s a potential problem. Think about it – all of the apps have to be on the internet somewhere. They’re hosted on a web server. It could be any web server… Read more →

Rain, rain, rain, site tweaks, rain, rain.

Today, for a change, it rained. I’m beginning to think that summer 2007 is officially cancelled here in the UK because it has been completely rrrrrrrrrrrrrubbish. The weather forecasters have now started to say, “Good evening.. ermm.. no, this isn’t a recording but…..” Rain… then tomorrow, it’ll rain. Then the next day things are looking up because it’ll rain slightly… Read more →
